In the past I wrote a post about Craigslist. For those of you who missed it you can check it out here. However, that post was written over a year ago and since then I have started using Craigslist more recently and it has been very beneficial to me when it comes to finding private clients. So, since I am actually pulling in a decent amount of income from Craigslist I figured it was time to touch basics on it again.
How Does It Work?
Well, Craigslist is one of the classified ads sites that are free to post on. You will have to create an account if you do not already have one but it only takes a few moments to do so. Once you have your account you then will be able to post. You can go through the jobs and gigs sections to try to find jobs that way. But, in my experience the posters are flooded with so many emails that the chances of being hired are slim to none. So, the best thing to do is to post an ad in the writing section under services and have the clients contact you.
How to Make Money
In order to make money with Craigslist you are going to need to post ads in a variety of cities. I would recommend starting off with five cities and then posting a new ad every day. Also, it can be a good idea to renew your ads every three days. If you take this route you should get inquiries every day. Some are going to lead to jobs while others are not.
How Much Money Can Be Made on Craigslist
The good thing about Craigslist, from my experience anyways, is the clients are willing to pay more money than other methods that can be used to find private clients. I have landed jobs through Craigslist that have paid 0.10 a word and I have heard of others landed jobs that pay as much as $1.00 a word. (I haven’t been so lucky yet but I am still hopefulJ). So, basically, when it comes to Craigslist your earning opportunities are limitless. The formula is: more ads = more money. It’s just that simple!
The Trick to Increasing Your Rate
Obviously, if you have figured out which cities are “gold mines” you are going to find yourself waking up to a ton of inquires each morning. You are not going to be able to meet everyone’s needs. So, this is a good time to work on increasing your rate. When you have reached your capacity with clients but still have more potential clients contacting you charge them more than you would normally charge. Some of them are going to decline the rate while others are going to pay the rate. You will have more work added to your schedule but you have also just landed yourself a higher paying client which puts you closer to making your dream income of $100 an hour (or whatever your dream income may be).
Overall, if you are not using Craigslist as a way of advertising your writing services you should be. There are other classified ads sites out there for you to advertise on as well. However, I have only tested out Craigslist so I cannot speak on any of the other classified ads sites at this time.
